Poundland have a neat looking little crow type thing that makes crowing noises when you pass in front of it. It seems a good time to show how these light based movement sensors work and also try a little mod to make a crow-type-thing with glowing red eyes. Huge bulbous glowing red eyes... I really should get some 3mm LEDs in stock.

Oh, and I love how cheap, accessible and bright tiny SMD LEDs are these days, you certainly could put there a couple of 0805 lamps; they are worse for mounting them in mid-air instead of a PCB, but that's the only downside I discovered so far.

I bought a pack of such cheap audio transducers recently, and they divide into active ones and passive ones.
Active ones were potted, but those passive ones must be of the same construction, by the look of what I can see through the holes.
Thank you for showing us interesting components from the inside, so we don't have to take them apart ourselves. ;D

The genus is Corvus, which consists of crows, ravens, and rooks. There are somewhere around 50 species. Based on the Edgar Allen Poe poem, I'd think it was a raven, but I think you Brits have a thing for crows, so in the end, I think the species is going to depend on alcohol consumption.
